AOL interview (22nd October 2001)

'I met Natalie Imbruglia last week, so I'd quite like to spit on her food'

UKMC 2: Welcome Dermot, tell us about your day..

Dermot Live: I got up at 5 to do the XFM breakfast selection then I had the workshop down at Centrepoint, a quick meeting in London and now I'm just working at home doing voiceover for a show I'm doing.

UKMC 2: So what is Centrepoint all about?

Dermot Live: Centrepoint essentially helps young homeless people in London without any judgement. It asks that they respect each other and it's a drug free environment. It provides young people with a place to stay and new opportunities. I got involved with them about 6 months ago, I picked out 4 or 5 charities I wanted to work with, as I wanted to do charity work but not spread myself too thin

UKMC 2: Blazeofglory1983 asks...

Question: if u weren't a tv presenter what would your ideal job be?

Dermot Live: I'd love to be a fisherman, a chef, or own my own deli or bar or something.

UKMC 2: WPaulVanDyk asks...

Question: Hi dermot so how did you get into Radio because i want to be a
Radio DJ.

Dermot Live: I was initially doing work experience with BBC Essex and then before I started being on telly I applied for a job at XFM and Margarita has a show on Capitol, who own XFM and they got me in for a screen test, and the rest is history - or probably will be soon!

UKMC 2: Skandalbabe02 asks...

Question: hi dermot, can i just say you are very sexy!! my question: If you were a fly on a wall whose wall would you be on and why?

Dermot Live: I met Natalie Imbruglia last week, so I'd quite like to spit on her food.

UKMC 2: X5Nikki5x asks...

Question: dermot is it true you and sam mumba are together if not have you got
a gf and would you go out with me?

Dermot Live: No, it's not true - I've only met her twice, which is admittedly longer than most of my relationships. I don't have a girlfriend but I did have, so at the moment I'm having a bit of a break.

UKMC 2: Blazeofglory1983 again...

Question: Would you ever consider making a record?

Dermot Live: Absolutely not, you should hear me sing...

UKMC 2: R8chel2kx asks...

Question: whats the best that has ever happend to u

Dermot Live: probably, tv wise, I did the two TFIs last year which were
Fantastic. Non TV wise that's none of your business.

UKMC 2: Alana030585 asks..

Question: Is there anything else you would like to do apart from present?

Dermot Live: Yeah, just started my own little production company so ideally the next step would be being involved in producing, although I wouldn't produce myself and hopefully write a lot as well, but write for someone else.

UKMC 2: Jezpool asks...

Question: r u a gud cook? if so whats the best/worst meal u av eva cooked?

Dermot Live: I am actually, not the greatest on earth, but ok. The best ever would probably be crab, I'm big into seafood and shellfish. I've a lot of problems thickening sauces, make of that what you will.

UKMC 2: Skandalbabe02 asks...

Question: i want to do radio presenting, or tv presnting what would suggest for good work experience, i've just printed out 20 cv's

Dermot Live: Send them out to start with! And what's very important is to get yourself behind the as much as possible, 'cause if you know what goes into
making a TV programme it makes you a better presenter

UKMC 2: VICTORIAPLUM2001 asks...

Question: Dermot when are we going to see a bit more of you?

Dermot Live: I start showing the stuff I'm doing at the minute early next
year, I'm doing something for the BBC now called Are You Tough Enough, a documentary which will probably come out after we're being at war, and I've just finished shooting the pilot for Heat (magazine) TV.

UKMC 2: R8chel2kx asks...

Question: have u got a joke to tell us

Dermot Live: Who are the nicest guys in the hospital?

It's gotta be the ultrasound guys

UKMC 2: :)

UKMC 2: Brillnick asks an old favourite...
Question: If you had to be stranded on a desert Island and you could only
take 3 things wth you, what would you take?

Dermot Live: Hmmm... My record collection complete with player, a beachbuggy and a lifetime supply of beer.

UKMC 2: Jezpool asks...

Question: am interested in the production side of t.v how do the celebs treat
The production staff?

Dermot Live: Well that all depends, mostly with disdain and that's exactly how it should be. The people who have worked behind the camera always know how
hard it is so treat the production crew with the respect they deserve and it's a desperate cliche, but all the best shows have great teams behind them and that means presenters working well with production teams.

UKMC 2: VICTORIA again...

Question: Do you get sent lots of underwear through the post????

Dermot Live: I've never been sent any unless I subscribe to it myself which
has been know to happen. Sometimes I send myself some to make myself feel better.

UKMC 2: Mr Lover man1969 asks...

Question: WHO WAS YOUR FAVOURITE ON B/B THIS YEAR

Dermot Live: I was a big fan of Brian, but Paul pleasantly surprised my as
Well

UKMC 2: THEGIRLWHO9 asks...

Question: what sort of music r u into @the moment Dermot? Have u ever interviewed Thom Yorke?

Dermot Live: I've never interviewed him. I saw Turin Brakes last night who were brilliant, I'm a big indie kid. The Elbow album was fantastic the Mull Historical Society is great and I love my Hip Hop as well, liked the Adam F album.

UKMC 2: X5Nikki5x asks...

Question: hey dermot can i say your gorgeouse i wanna know who has been the worst celeb you have met! and the best!

Dermot Live: I found Mick Hucknall immensely standoffish, maybe I got him on a bad day. The nicest, who went on T4 and then I met again was Joshua
Jackson from Dawson's Creek.

UKMC 2: KerryBoulton asks...

Question: Would you be a contestant on Big Brother?

Dermot Live: I was asked to do Celebrity Big Brother and I said no. I'm well aware of what a nightmare I am to live with and I didn't want the rest of the country to know as well.

UKMC 2: Alana020585 asks...

Question: Whats the funniest thing that has ever happened to you in front of the camera?

Dermot Live: I think the one that always stands out is the 10 minute fill that me and Bernard had to do at the party in the Park. Elton John's piano had broken down, and we had no idea how long we had to talk so talked about nothing for 10 minutes.

UKMC 2: Claire8221 asks...

Question: who's your idol?

Dermot Live: I don't really have an idol, but lots of people i admire I know it's slushy, but my dad's a big hero - he came to this country with £30 in his pock pocket but it was all good stuff. Ernest Shackleton who's a fantastic explorer and on tv Jonathan Ross.

UKMC 2: WPaulVanDyk asks...

Question: Dermot who is your favourite band of all time

Dermot Live: Pogues. The seminal band of my youth.

UKMC 2: LOSY74 asks..

Question: I read in an interview one of your favourite places is New York,
what's your favourite spot there and do you think you'll go back?

Dermot Live: I hope to go back, definitely I loved the view from Ellis Island, love the history there and a bar on 44th street called the Old Bar I've had many a good night in there.

UKMC 2: Ok, last question tonight from Blazeofglory1983...

Question: Would you like to appear in a soap if so, which one?

Dermot Live: I wouldn't, but if I had to, if it was soap or die, it would
definitely be Eastenders - Pepe diMarco's long lost Irish cousin... the ladies' favourite.
UKMC 2: Any final words for your fans Dermot?

Dermot Live: Just thanks if you are one, it's nice to know I'm doing a good
job if that's what I'm doing
