Dermot's
Dress Code
How would you describe your style?
I love smart-casual dressing which is good because
it seems to be what I have to wear all the time.
You can't really wear suits on T4, as it goes
out on Sunday mornings when most people are
chilling. So I have to be somewhere in between.
I suppose I'm the smart end of casual.
How does your personal style differ from
the way you dress on screen?
It's pretty similar, but I can't wear black
on screen, which is a bit of a shame because
it's my favourite colour, along with grey. It's
a bit of a joke at work between me and Andi
Peters. I tell him to smarten up because he's
always in Nike and Ralph Lauren Sport and he
tries to get me out of black and grey.
Where
do you normally do your shopping?
I love Nicole Farhi trousers and I usually get
my shirts from Nigel Hall. I like wearing suits
for the right occasion. I've go quite a few
by Ozwald Boateng and Gieves & Hawes, but
what I really want is a bespoke suit. I haven't
got one yet because I've just bought a house
and I'm sure that, as soon as I order my suit,
I'll get my stamp-duty bill.
So you're not mad for designer clothes then?
Not mad for them, but I do find some nice things
in Gucci every now and then. I like very plain
and simple, understated pieces. I'm also into
Costume Nationale, but I'm not someone who'll
only wear designer clothes. It's just that sometimes
you can't find the same things on the high street.
you might find certain things in a supermarket
range, but they'd be on special offer with half
a pound of fish!
How
much do you spend on clothes?
Well, I don't have a clothing budget for T4
or The Bigger Breakfast, which used to really
annoy me. Now I like it because it means I wear
what I want. Also, I can buy myself a nice indulgence
and then justify it because I'll wear it for
work. I suppose I spend about £300 to
£400 a month, which is nothing compared
to how much a girl could spend.
What's the most you've spent on one item?
I bought a lovely Nicole Farhi summer jacket
recently- you could even class it as a heavy
shirt. I was lucky and got in at the wholesale
price - otherwise it'd have been £400.
What
kind of stuff do you like girls to wear?
I find girls' stomachs amazingly sexy, so anything
that shows them off is great. But really, I
like girls to dress in whatever they feel most
comfortable in.
What outfit are you going to buy next?
I'm just about to go out and buy a shirt and
tie combination from Gieves & Hawkes to
wear at an awards ceremony that I'm going to.
I've already chosen it - in my favourite colour
grey, of course. Identical shade shirts and
ties are very in this year, you know.
